A’s Schedule This Week: 16th August

It’s a big week for the A’s with a trip to Chicago to end the road-trip and then the all-important series at the Coliseum against the Giants.

Chicago White Sox (A)

Season series so far: Yet to play.

The A’s and White Sox have identical 68-50 win-loss records coming into the series, showing that this will be a very evenly-matched contest. Such is the interest in this series that three of the four games have been selected for live broadcast on UK TV, including the day-game finale on Thursday.

Chicago have a comfortable 10 game lead in the disappointing AL Central division, but come into this week on the back of two consecutive losses against the New York Yankees. The probable pitching match-ups are as follows:

  • Gm1. Frankie Montas – Dallas Keuchel
  • Gm2. Chris Bassitt – Reynaldo López
  • Gm3. Cole Irvin – Lance Lynn
  • Gm4. James Kaprielian – Dylan Cease

San Francisco Giants (H)

Season series so far: A’s trail 1-2.

Cole Irvin pitched brilliantly at Oracle Park in the finale of the three-game series back in late June, helping us to rescue a victory and to ensure there is all to play for in the Bay Bridge Series stakes this coming weekend.

The A’s won 5 of 6 against the Giants last season so we have the “trophy-holder advantage” this year. The Giants will need to sweep the series to take the local rivalry trophy away from us. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, for more reasons than one!

Probable pitching match-ups currently would be:

  • Gm1. Sean Manaea – Johnny Cueto
  • Gm2. Frankie Montas – Alex Wood
  • Gm3. Chris Bassitt – Kevin Gausman
